Maria McDaniel-Dikin, mezzo-soprano, has been described as “a voice of true power, polish and splendor…with an engaging and exciting gift for the stage.” She began her vocal training in high school with private voice lessons. She was soon singing in top choral ensembles, lead roles in musical theater productions, and winning solo contests. Her passion and talent for singing found a niche on the opera stage during her undergraduate studies at Millikin University. She has since performed in leading, supporting, and chorus roles in over 30 operas in 4 languages ranging from Mozart to Verdi to contemporary composers. In addition to singing opera, she actively sings oratorio, (such as Handel’s Messiah), professional chamber ensemble works, and church music. She received her Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from Georgia State University in 2007. She is currently a member of the Atlanta Opera Chorus and will complete the Studio Artist Program with Chautauqua Opera in New York this summer.
Maria specializes in developing voices with a strong, classical technique at all levels of vocal experience. She also trains students in audition preparation and stage presence, as well as musical proficiency through music theory and ear training. She has teaches many different levels, from beginning through college level, professional and adult students. Some of her students have performed leading musical theater roles, won competitions, received college vocal scholarships, and are regular soloists and performers. Here is one recent SOPAC student testimonial: “Ms. Maria’s lessons are great! She really knows what she’s doing and makes it fun.” She has private lessons available on a weekly and bi-weekly basis at SOPAC on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting Fall 2008. Private voice students also perform on recitals during the year. Please visit her website and contact her with any questions at: http://mariadikin.musicteachershelper.com.
